information DESCRIPTION

The New Edinburgh Orchestra is a friendly amateur orchestra of around 70 players based in Edinburgh, Scotland and conducted by Tim Paxton. We are a member of Making Music: the National Federation of Music Societies.

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings and perform three concerts a year. Our repertoire includes new music, including several works commissioned by the NEO, along with a variety of more familiar classical pieces.

The NEO was formed in 1994 by Alexander Acland and Daniel Monek, who was the orchestra's first conductor. He remained with the orchestra until the summer of 1997, when he returned to his native United States. James Leather took over the running of the orchestra and the next conductor was Steve King, who joined us for the 1997-98 season.

Our present principal conductor, Tim Paxton, has conducted many successful seasons since taking over in 1998, and the orchestra is now run by a committee of members.

We are a registered Scottish Charity.
