information SERVICE DETAILS

At Project Esperanza, we support people including those with lived experience of destitution and NRPF and we use their experiences to inform, direct and develop our wider work. We strongly believe that the voices, experiences and participation of people with NRPF and other migrants should be heard and their involvement in conversations about issues that affect them must not be overlooked. “There should be no conversations held about them, without them”.

Project Esperanza advocates for people’s basic rights, entitlements, and for the provision of ‘safety nets’ in communities that improve health and overall wellbeing; as well as provide food relief and other practical support to people who are restricted from government support. Where people are prohibited from employment Project Esperanza continues to bring opportunities that allow for people to gain skills through volunteering to maintain dignity and mental wellness.

Project Esperanza seeks effective partnerships, and collaborations on service delivery structures that focus on NRPF. We want to work with organisations that have a human rights-based approach and recognise the fundamental rights to food, healthcare, housing and ending hardship and destitution. If your organisation wants to engage with us in this area please get in touch.

SYSTEMS ADVOCACY

Our independent advocacy service knows no borders because racial prejudice and oppression continues to exist and continues to create barriers and inequalities that affect women in many areas. As evidence does suggest that inequalities are contributory factors to the cycle of hardship and hinder a healthy life expectancy; that’s why we like to be involved in work that reduces barriers and inequalities and ultimately improves quality of life.

How we get it done…

- We meet politicians to discuss racial and equality justice issues with the hope that they will influence decision makers to address the health, social and economic inequalities that affect women and their families.
- We consult with Service agencies, organisations and community leaders whom we engage through conversations about working with people who are subject to immigration control & NRPF. The conversations are structured to ensure cultural understanding and culturally sensitive and appropriate support services are made available.

We consult with Service agencies, organisations and community leaders to;

- Exercise intervention & prevention of unnecessary hardship for women and their families
- Influence on policies, workplace procedures, workplace practices and responses that negatively impact people
- Influence a change in societal perceptions to do away with dehumanising migrants
- Seek ways in which we can together challenge the various issues that affect women, their families, their communities and the wider community.

We do this by using our knowledge and expertise in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

INDIVIDUAL ADVOCACY

We care about the wider needs and overall well-being of women and their families and our aim within advocacy is to improve health, social and economic outcomes and ensure that people have a voice, and their voice is used to inform service providers and wider society; and bring an insight into how their lives are affected by being overlooked or neglected.

How we get it done…

- We support women and families to speak up for themselves by highlighting their experiences and ensuring that they are part of the conversations taking place about them.
- We make sure that the voices of those women and families who otherwise are unable to speak up for themselves are heard so that they too can highlight their experiences and be included in conversations taking place about them.
- We create opportunities for women to meet and speak up for themselves in groups, in a non conflict manner, mostly using some literary art forms.
- We assist women and families to access services/local services that they may have difficulty in accessing but could otherwise benefit from.
- We work with lawyers to protect rights.
