information SERVICE DETAILS

Connecting Craigmillar is a community development project, supported by Link Up (Inspiring Scotland) and The Thistle Foundation.

Connecting Craigmillar works to enable opportunities for local people to meet, have fun, learn together, form new friendships and develop lasting positive change together.

It is for local residents of all ages and backgrounds in Craigmillar and Niddrie to develop projects, groups, events, and activities around things they are interested in, and to focus on things they want to learn about and change. The aim and ethos of the project is about supporting mutual aid, informal learning, and community-led solutions. If you live in the area or know someone that does, let us know and we can work with you or them to develop an idea, passion, or interest, or act on a issue you care about.

We have had a range of peer and community-led support services through the pandemic, including food distribution, online classes (including the Craigmillar Tapestry Project and a sketching group), peer support groups, art projects, bike rides, outdoor T'ai chi, online youth music event; outdoor family activities, and family cooking sessions.

Other projects and activities before Covid-19 including a Cinema Club; a social group; an art group; walking group; family support group; and more. These can be on-going and weekly, or short courses, or one off activities or events.

We also partner with local community groups and organisations to develop projects, events and support in the area and provide additional capacity and resource with wider initiatives where needed.

Activities are carried out in various venues across Craigmillar/Niddrie including; The Thistle Foundation; The Richmond; Bridgend Farmhouse; Craigmillar library; Caring in Craigmillar
