information SERVICE DETAILS

The Edinburgh Branch of The Society of Recorder Players meets from September to June on Monday evenings, playing all sizes of recorder from sopranino to contra-bass.

Repertoire ranges from medieval to modern, with a Christmas and Summer concerts.

There's no auditions and new members are always welcome.

Yearly subscriptions are £83 full member, £153 household, £30 student, and includes a quarterly magazine.

We meet monthly for playing sessions, and these are an excellent opportunity to get together with fellow players and learn about the recorder, its music, opportunities to play in small groups, courses etc.

We usually prepare two very informal evening concerts each year, in December and June, in addition to preparing music for our own enjoyment. We enjoy playing an extensive repertoire everything from consort music and Bach fugues to Strauss polkas to modern sea shanties!

There is no minimum entry standard, though confidence in sight-reading is a definite advantage. If you are unsure, why not contact us and come along to see what we get up to? You will need to bring your own music stand.

The branch also organises playing days and other events which are open to non-members, which are a great opportunity to come along and meet everyone and join in the wonderful world of recorder playing.
