Herb garden Group...

We are based within Greyfriars Kirk & Cemetery and we take part in developing, maintaining and enjoying the multiple herb gardens that this site has to offer including two traditional medicinal beds, two culinary beds, and a dyers bed. Different gardening methods and skills are developed and practised in both the morning and afternoon groups.

As always people from all backgrounds and communities are encouraged to participate and new members are always welcome!

The garden is very old and members try to honour historical links - prior to the establishment of the kirkyard after the Scottish reformation, a Franciscan Friary and apothecary garden occupied the site.

Although primarily aimed at individuals facing deep social exclusion, the Grassmarket Community Project encourages all members of the local community to join in and work side by side with participants from all walks of life.

Facilitated by Trudi and Tom

Wednesday 11:00am -1:00pm / 2:00pm - 3:30pm – Herb Garden Group

In-person in the centre (run in accordance with strict safety measures)

The members programme is about supporting people through transitions in their lives and reconnecting disengaged people. This is the ethos that underpins all the elements of what we do, from cooking to social integration, work opportunities to social contact, advice to arts. We are committed to meeting individuals, welcoming them and supporting them wherever they are on their journey. We are aimed at vulnerable people however we also open the doors to anyone so we enjoy a truly rich, diverse and supportive community!

We offer a mixture of education programmes, drop-in services, social enterprise and social integration activities.

FREE lunches are served to members of the project (participants in this programme who register with us).

To become a member and access this FREE programme ask at reception for a form or complete the form online at https://grassmarket.org/member.

How do I sign up for Classes?

Once you are a member there is an activity book kept at Reception. You just need to flip through that book to your chosen activity with the appropriate date and sign your name. Please do this in advance, as sometimes activities can be cancelled on the day, and we would need to notify all members who had signed up. Make sure your contact details and emergency contact details are up-to-date. You can also phone 0131 225 3626, email info@grassmarket.org or text 07860 021 262 and we’ll add you.

How do I sign up for Lunch?

Once you have signed up for an activity on a chosen day, there is a separate sign in sheet kept at reception for lunch. Note: You must be coming to an activity in the morning / afternoon in order to attend lunch. There is a cut-off of 11:00am - if you haven’t signed up for lunch by then it may be to late, sorry.
