A TYPICAL MORNING AT NILE GROVE PLAYGROUP

9.15am - The children are welcomed in to playgroup.

The first part of the morning is designated ‘free play’; that is the children are able to enjoy playing in any part of the playgroup they choose.

There are a wide range of toys, active equipment and sensory play resources available to the children. For example, the home corner, dressing up, puzzles, water and sand trays. A child who is playing happily or is busy with one activity will not be interrupted and directed towards another if they wish to continue whatever they are doing. Stories are read in the story corner is a child shows interest. The children can take part in a wide variety of craft activities and have many different materials available to them e.g. paint, glue, dough. Special pieces of craftwork are made by the children to tie in with a particular theme or season. The children also have the opportunity to do some baking.

10am - We sit together to take the register and have the opportunity for discussion, for example, of the weeks theme. Afterwards children resume free play.

10.30am - We get together to sing songs and wash hands ready to sit down for snack all together. Playgroup provides a healthy mid morning snack, with the choice of milk or water.

Some examples of snack:

- Oatcakes, cheese, grapes and apples
- Bread, sugar free jam, pineapple and banana
- Bread sticks and carrots to dip in soft cheese
- Cheese scones made by the children in the morning, cucumber and plums.

11am - There is the opportunity for the children to play in the garden if they wish. We endeavour to get some fresh air every day. There is a playhouse and play equipment such as trikes, space hoppers, stilts, balls and a basketball net.

11.15am - Children are involved in tidying the toys. Then there is the opportunity for group games, playing with the parachute, singing and dancing.

11.30am - We join together for a story at the end of the morning.

11.45am - Parents are welcomed in to collect children.
