Craigmillar Books for Babies is a multi-agency project which aims to encourage and support parents and carers to share books and stories with their babies. We promote reading as a relevant and worthwhile source of pleasure which enhances children's early development.
We also believe that reading and book sharing enhance early communication and strengthens the bond between the parent/carer and child. Craigmillar Books for Babies work in partnership with a range of local partners including health visitors, local library services and early years establishments.

Using an assets-based approach we support and encourage parents to give their child the best start in life.
This ensures that every family living in Craigmillar with a child under 4 is given the opportunity to engage with the project in a way that meets the hopes and expectations of each family.
We work with over 650 families in the Craigmillar area with children under the age of 4. The project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and externally evaluated every 3 years.
Craigmillar Books for Babies was set up in 1998 and is a project of the Craigmillar Literacy Trust, a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. The project's patron is Patrick Benson, illustrator of the world famous Owl Babies. You can donate to the work of Craigmillar Literacy Trust.
