Edinburgh Carers Council

We are a local Edinburgh charity that provides free, confidential and independent advocacy for carers supporting someone with mental health difficulties.

We are an independent Edinburgh charity that is carer-led in its developments.

We provide:

- Information to carers about all aspects of mental health care and services.
- Individual advocacy services for carers and named persons.
- Collective advocacy.
- Training opportunities so carers can be empowered.

Edinburgh Carers Council is a representative forum for carers of people with mental health problems across Edinburgh, composed of individual carers, members of carers support groups and other carer organisations.

Our aim is to ensure that the views and needs of carers are included at all stages in the development of mental health services, and to give carers the information and support necessary for them to carry out their caring role.

We act as a point of contact for carers of those who use mental health services by providing information, support and learning opportunities.

We hold regular open meetings and information sessions, and take action with carers and on their behalf.

At our resource centre we provide internet access and resource material for carers.

At the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, Edinburgh Carers Council is organising ways to support carers and provide information for them.

Edinburgh Carers Council is a charity that has provided advocacy to carers for over 16 years. When you are caring for someone with mental health difficulties it can be stressful, confusing and isolating. Our services help carers access the support and information to be in control of their own caring situation. Located at The Canon Mill, we also have an office at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. Appointments can be made to be seen at either office.
