information DESCRIPTION

The Edinburgh Festival Voluntary Guides Association was founded in 1947, the same year as the Edinburgh International Festival, to show visitors our historical Royal Mile.

70 years later we are still guiding visitors through the Old Town!

Our trained, voluntary guides are local people with a great love of Old Edinburgh who wish to share their enthusiasm with you, and who are prepared to do so in all weathers.

They have extensive knowledge of the history of Edinburgh and its characters, and are happy to discuss topics of special interest with their guests.

Come with us and explore Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile.

Join us for a free walking tour along the Royal Mile – the heart of Edinburgh's historic Old Town.

Our expert guides will take you to the hidden corners of this fascinating district: the closes and courtyards, the neuks and crannies – places that you might never discover on your own. We'll tell you about its history and especially about the characters and historical figures who have made Edinburgh what it is.

All our guides are local people who love our city and are only too pleased to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with you
