Edinburgh Leisure’s Movement for Memories Project will support the independence and wellbeing of people living with dementia, their carers and families by getting them physically active.
Edinburgh Leisure’s specialist team will work with Dementia Communities to offer a free outreach service providing tailored physical activity programmes for people living with dementia. Run in partnership with local dementia services; activities will be based on the needs of the group and can take place in partner venues, a community setting or an Edinburgh Leisure venue. Sessions will provide a fun introduction to different activities that help people with dementia and their carers get active. Activities will be chosen by participants and will run once a month or over a rolling six-week programme. Activities include: dance, chair based classes, walking football, low level circuits, Tai Chi, etc.
Information will be provided to all participants of Edinburgh Leisure’s dementia friendly services to identify individuals who would like to be referred to Edinburgh Leisure’s Movement for Memories services.
