information DESCRIPTION

Imaginate is a unique organisation in Scotland, promoting, developing and celebrating the performing arts for children and young people.

The purpose of Imaginate is to act as an advocate for the provision of high-quality performing arts for children across Scotland.

Imaginate creates and produces Britain's biggest performing arts festival for children and young people attracting over 15,000 children, their teachers, friends and families.

It is our goal to ensure that children and young people in Scotland have regular access to high-quality performing arts experiences. Our vision is driven by the belief that inspiring our young people is essential not only to their individual development but to the development of Scotland, its economy and its place in the world.

We strive to achieve this ambition through the delivery of an integrated programme of performance (including the world-renowned Imaginate Festival), art-form development and creative learning as well as audience and policy development projects.

The Imaginate Festival and Tour presents high-quality, distinctive Scottish and international performances to an audience of around 10,000 children and young people, their teachers, families and carers each year. The Imaginate Festival has established itself as one of the best places for programmers from all over the world to see children and young people’s work of the very highest standard. It has also become a place where artists meet, to see and discuss work and take part in professional development activities. Over the last three years, the Family Fringe has taken off. It gives artists and performers based in Scotland the opportunity to create, perform and experiment with new ideas for family audiences. Fun-packed and full of variety, the short performances take place in the Traverse bar café during the Festival.

Imaginate believes that a high-quality Creative Development Programme is the key to unlocking creativity and supporting artistic excellence in the performing arts sector for children and young people in Scotland. This programme nurtures, supports and encourages artistic excellence by offering a range of opportunities to Scottish-based artists and producers.

Our Creative Learning Programme works in partnership with schools, local authorities and Education Scotland to support pupils, teachers and other educators’ creative development.

Imaginate continually works with many partners in the areas of research, advocacy and audience development, with the aim of increasing access and participation, and enhancing the experience of attending a performing arts event for children and young people.

Audience Development includes a range of practical initiatives that enrich our engagement with audiences, and enhance the reputation of the work being created in Scotland.

Policy Development activity aims to ensure that the organisation is strategically placed to understand and respond to cultural, political, social and financial issues that affect the children's and young people’s performing arts sector, and advocate on its behalf.
