information DESCRIPTION

Screen Education Edinburgh (SEE) is a centre of excellence for the study and production of film for young people, adult learners, communities and independent filmmakers from all backgrounds, with a passion for nurturing creativity and artistic expression, raising levels of attainment and aspiration.

Our programmes operate across Edinburgh and South East Scotland, with a special focus on disadvantaged communities.

For our young participants we provide a range of filmmaking programmes, starting with our Cashback for Creativity programme focused on developing young people in areas high on the Scottish SIMD Index, including tasters and access projects, then progressing onto ‘Introduction to Film’ and ‘Next Steps’ projects.

Our BFI Film Academy project’s develop young people aged 16 to 19 from all backgrounds through an intensive film understanding, watching, production and industry engagement programme.

Our Moving Image Arts programme develops young people aged 16 to 21 from all backgrounds in film understanding, watching, history, theory and production, preparing them for progression to further study of film at higher education level, or progression to film & TV industries.

Adult learners are supported through our Life Long Learning programme, whilst new talent and independent filmmakers benefit from our short film schemes, professional development courses, low cost equipment hire and our events and screening forum for independent filmmakers ‘Write Shoot Cut’.

Through our in-house filmmaking and film training expertise we are also able to provide bespoke training and learning projects, as well as high quality film productions, for festival release, broadcast, the third and public sectors.

In an average year our programmes engage with 800 participants across the region and at our base in North Edinburgh. Accredited learning is available through Arts Award, the NCFE BFI / Skillset ‘Preparing to work in the Film Industry’ qualification and the Moving Image Arts A Level.

SEE is served by three Lothian Buses routes (numbers 21, 29 & 37) stopping on Ferry Road, one street up from the office. Please click here for timetables and route maps.
