Wester Hailes LPT Educational Trust was set up as a separate charitable company by Wester Hailes Land & Property Trust in 2007.

TRUSTEES

Minimum of five (three of whom are elected from LPT's Board)

TRUST PURPOSES

To advance education and in particular to assist young local people aged 21 or under who are no longer in full time school education to gain higher educational qualifications, by providing grants to help meet the cost of books and/or other educational materials, fees and/or living expenses.

Available to those resident at the time of the award within the WHEC catchment area and who for no less than three years prior to the time of the award attended Wester Hailes Education Centre, St Augustine's High School or the cluster primary schools within the WHEC catchment area.

A young person who would otherwise be eligible, shall not be debarred from consideration for a grant from the Trust by reason only of the fact that he/she had not lived within the area referred to above for three years prior to the time of award if his/her absence for a period or periods from that area was due to circumstances which are considered by the Trustees to have been outwith his/her control.

Any financial support provided by the Trust should be for the duration of an applicant's first higher educational course unless exceptional circumstances apply.

The expenses of creating and administering the Trust, and any tax payable in relation to the Trust, shall be met in priority to all other payments and transfers of assets out of the Trust property.

AWARDS

Trustees will decide each year the number and amount of each award.

Applications are now invited from anyone who meets the above criteria and who will be embarking on a college or university course.

Awards are issued annually with applications to be submitted by the end of February each year.
