This is an alternative to going to a conventional gym with treadmills and weights. Each session gives you a full body work out while carrying out garden work, planting and conservation work. It does not matter how physically active you currently are or how much gardening experience you have we can cater for every ability; we will find activities for everyone.
We offer an alternative to conventional exercise to give you an enjoyable workout while being outside and enjoying the fresh air.
Other benefits include:
- learning new skills
- meet new people
- be part of the community
Where is the garden?
The community garden is situated by the canal at Calder Crescent. Access from canal and/or Wester Hailes Road. Sometimes we also work at our community allotment at Dumbryden Allotments.
What happens at conservation sessions?
We start a health walk from the Health agency along the canal to the Community Garden at around 12.45 pm. At the garden we do a range of fun and interesting gardening, conservation and art activities planned for the day. There will also be time for a tea break for the all important refreshments! We then finish up at 4pm with a relaxing walk back to the Health Agency.
When is it?
Our sessions will last from 1pm until 4pm every Tuesday for 10-12 weeks after which we have a 1 week break before the start of the next programme.
