Welcome to our City Community, a safe and supportive living space for young people. Our City Community is designed to provide a stable and caring environment for individuals aged 18-30 who experiencing homelessness.
Our large house in North Edinburgh aims to create a safe, stable and secure environment where young people can live, learn and develop together.
The community is home to up to eight residents. Volunteer mentors also live on site and staff work during office hours.
The community was our first project and is still at the heart of what we do. It focuses on shared living between residents and volunteers, including:
- Shared responsibilities for household jobs like shopping, cooking and cleaning.
- Shared decision-making around managing their home and its finances.
Who lives at the City Community?
Our residents come from a variety of backgrounds, and include people who have:
- Moved on from care agencies
- Experienced family breakdown
- Experienced homelessness
- Experienced drug or alcohol problems
- Experienced mental health problems
Wherever they come from, we work with the residents to become part of our community. We provide them with accommodation, food and personal items, as well as a self-directed personal development allowance.
They can also get involved with structured activities like training and development, community-based initiatives and social and leisure events.
Our community is staffed by a team of experienced professionals who work full-time to provide support and guidance to our residents. Our dedicated team is committed to helping our residents overcome the challenges they face and build a better future for themselves.
In addition to our full-time staff, our community also includes residential peer mentors who live alongside our residents. They provide valuable support and guidance to our residents, helping them to set goals and work towards achieving them.
