Shifting Gears
Shifting Gears is our flagship community programme dedicated to supporting and working with individuals who have been typically underrepresented or excluded from sustainable travel programmes.
Our flagship community programme
Shifting Gears is a grassroots community led project that has been operating since April 2021 in Perth and Edinburgh. The aim of the programme is to to support and work with individuals who have been typically underrepresented or excluded from sustainable travel programmes.
How it works
Participants are referred to the Shifting Gears programme from any one of our partner organisations. From there, the programme has three distinct elements.
Bike referrals and distribution
All participants receive a free bike, lock, lights and helmet.
Cycling lessons, group rides and maintenance
We offer a variety of lessons and classes to build confidence and skills.
Employability opportunities and training
Training, work experience and paid employment at The Bike Station.

A Yes, so long as you are a member of one of our partner organisations for year two then you can get in touch with your representative there to sign up:
