COVID-19 UPDATE...

Until further notice from the government, all counselling sessions will be done over skype/zoom/an internet communication platform. This enables counselling sessions to go ahead with no risk to either party. We know that the current environment can be distressing and scary for people, and those with existing mental health conditions may find themselves struggling more than usual. Please know that our services will continue throughout this time, and we will do our best to support you and reply to you.

Service details...

We partner with highly trained counsellors who identify people who are ‘at risk’ of suicide but cannot afford the cost of ongoing counselling sessions.

The counsellor assesses how many initial sessions are needed and how much the person can afford to contribute themselves. They’re encouraged to contribute a small amount to show willing on their part to continue the sessions.

In consultation with the counsellor the Joshua Nolan Foundation funds the remaining cost of the sessions. The counsellor will update us on the progress of the person and if more sessions or funding is needed.

If you, or someone you know feels down and desperately needs help, the Joshua Nolan Foundation can put you in touch with highly-trained counsellors – and may be able to offer financial help towards the cost of confidential counselling sessions.

What is counselling?

Counselling is, in its simplest form, a structured conversation between two or more people. It encourages new ways of thinking and signposts resolutions to problems. Your counsellor will listen and learn to understand and respect you as a person. The trusting relationship that develops is non-judgmental and therefore allows a process of exploration to take place in a safe and secure environment.

Can I get funding for the first session?

The Joshua Nolan Foundation will fund 100% of a telephone assessment to determine if you and the counsellor are a good match.

Will I be eligible for further funding?

At the end of the first session the counsellor will tell you whether you are eligible for funding from the Joshua Nolan Foundation. The Joshua Nolan Foundation will fund up to 80% of the session depending on your financial situation. As of August 2020, the JNF will fund up to 80% of the first four sessions with a counsellor. After this, the level of funding received is dependent on the assessment conducted by the counsellor which determines your level of risk. If you are deemed high risk, then further sessions in blocks of 8 with up to 80% funding will be awarded. If you are not deemed high risk, then alternative funding arrangements will be discussed.

How do you select a counsellor?

All of our counsellors meet our criteria as defined in the counsellor list and on our website. If you wish advice on selection please contact us at info@joshuanolanfoundation.org

Do I contact JNF or the counsellor directly?

You can choose to contact your chosen counsellor directly or you can email Joshua Nolan Foundation team at info@joshuanolanfoundation.org and we will arrange for a counsellor to contact you and arrange an initial session.

What if I can not attend a session?

Whilst missing a session can be unavoidable, please make an effort not to do so at short notice. Sessions cancelled at less than 24 hours still cost the Joshua Nolan Foundation and mean that we cannot fund further sessions. If you need to cancel please contact your counsellor as soon as possible to rearrange.

To get in touch with JNF or our counsellors please go the website or contact us via email info@joshuanolanfoundation.org.
