information SERVICE DETAILS

Our work (mostly) targeting BME children, young people and their families through the pandemic continues to evolve thanks to BBC Children in Need, the City of Edinburgh Council, the University of Edinburgh and the Robertson Trust. We assess and respond to the unique needs of our target communities.

We are connecting families to electronic devices and digital support, to ensure children and young people can access their homework/online sessions and parents are able to access financial support such as benefits/advice. This is essential to support families to overcome digital exclusion and language barriers.

We have established an online parents’ service; providing a 6-week course of Mindfulness and Meditation to parents/carers as a form of stress relief and reducing anxiety.

We are promoting creative learning at home; including the delivery of art supplies to members of Knots and Crosses Children’s Club (KCCC).

The youth work team are currently delivering two weekly sessions online: KCCC (7-10 yrs) and Knots and Crosses Youth Club (KCYC) (11-16 yrs). Participants have recently been working on cookery challenges and enterprise sessions. In addition, we have established a private Instagram page for young people to access (knots.and.crosses.youth.club) including a 3-week Lockdown challenge, with great prizes including a Nike voucher. This provision is continuing to grow.

Throughout the pandemic, we continue to provide Duke of Edinburgh award volunteering opportunities to young people. They have created COVID-19 health promotion messages in different languages, taught online sessions to children and have been supported to learn new skills.

Working with experienced tutors, we are providing homework support sessions and offering one-to-one online sessions to children, who are struggling with home learning.

We have been liaising with schools, social work departments and GP services to support children, young people and their parents/carers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

New members are welcome. Please refer families with children & young people to Jennifer Ba. Email jennifer@scorescotland.org.uk or text 07504 826 683.

For families severely affected financially by the COVID-19 disaster, we offer support with applying for emergency crisis/community grants. The Scottish Government has increased its Welfare Fund to provide financial assistance to those most in need. To find out more, please contact Bahiya on: bahiya@scorescotland.org.uk or text: 07504 826 683.

We have launched our ‘Summer Adventures from home’ programme for Knots and Crosses Childrens Club for 7-10 year olds and Knots and Crosses Youth club 11-16 year olds.

Please sign up via text to 07504 826 683. Have a look at https://www.scorescotland.org.uk/youth-work for our full programme.
