Harlaw Monday Group is for people living in the Balerno, Currie, Juniper Green area who have the diagnosis of mild to moderate Dementia or Cognitive impairment.
The aim of the group is to provide social and mental stimulation for the members through a mixture of mental and physical activities and well deserved respite for carers.
The group supports 8 older people who have Dementia or Cognitive Impairment from the local area. Providing lunch and social activities for a few hours each Monday this group gives some vulnerable people much needed social interaction and stimulation while at the same time giving carers a well deserved break which they can enjoy knowing that their loved ones are safe, secure and having great fun with each other.
It gives relief to carers and helps to stimulate and interest our clients in a friendly social situation whilst giving their carers a rest and an opportunity to live their own lives.
The time allows these carers to have some time to themselves which greatly assists in their ability to help care for the dementia sufferers, normally aged parents, in their own homes for as long as possible.
Activities are provided in accordance with our client’s abilities. Each person is treated as an individual. Activities include reminiscence therapy, mental stimulation workshops and physical games as well as musical entertainment.
Our hours are from 10.15am - 2.30pm with a hot lunch provided.
Harlaw Monday Group are based at the old Dean Park clinic, next to the primary school in Balerno.
Transport to and from the group is provided.
A charge of £5 per session is made.
