information SERVICE DETAILS

Our relationships are what matter most to us. Family therapy has been shown to help people in close relationships to support and help one another at times of stress and when experiencing difficult life events.

Cultural Sensitivity is important to us and we are committed to inclusive and respectful practice. We hold in mind how unfair rules and oppressive practices in our society can directly affect opportunities to live full lives, free from discrimination.

Our life experiences impact our mental health and well wellbeing.

Family therapy can help to:

- Overcome stresses and challenges
- Build confidence and resilience as a family unit, and
- Build on strengths and confidence to manage future challenges

The Family Therapy work includes emphasising and focusing on:

- Sharing and exploring difficult thoughts and emotions safely and in confidence
- Understanding each other’s experiences and views
- Appreciating each other’s needs
- Identifying and building on family strengths
- Making useful changes in your relationships and your lives

There are so many aspects of being part of a family, we can work with you to explore and support a range of concerns including:

- Family communication
- Child and adolescent distress and behaviour
- Parenting approaches
- Mental health and addiction issues
- Gender Identity
- Neuro-diversity
- Issues with eating
- Depression and self-harming behaviour
- Relationship issues and concerns
- The impact of physical illness and disability
- Separation, divorce, and step and blended family life
- Fostering, adoption, kinship care
- Bereavement
- Loss and Separation
- Distress and difficulties faced by families displaced through war, natural disasters and economic crises

Family can mean different things to different people, and we can meet with whoever is important to you. We work with individuals, couples, children of all ages, grandparents, siblings, adult children with their parents, looked after children, aunties, uncles, friends, carers and other professionals and other important members of your community.

Charges for Family and Young Person Therapy services

Your first appointment costs £40 and is a meeting where we talk with you and agree on what help we can offer.

Further sessions cost between £40 up to a maximum of £80 dependent on your household income.

Contributions will be discussed at your intake meeting so that you can agree on the fee you will pay.

We are a charity so whilst sessions are subsidised we have to ask all our clients to make a contribution to the cost of our services.

The contributions cover our operational costs, enabling us to pay our professional staff a competitive rate and to support clients who need to pay a lower contribution.

Your contributions help us to provide Family Therapy to families throughout the Lothians. Details of contributions and how to pay are on the Registration Form
