The EVOC Red Book

The online directory to find third sector Organisations, and their services across Edinburgh

IMPORTANT

Only services that are currently available during COVID-19 are listed in the directory.

In line with Government advice, most groups and organisations in the city have had to take the unfortunate decision to suspend face to face and group work activities. Please telephone or email the contacts listed for the group or organisation if you are interested in their work to check what alternative arrangements might be available.

We Move Surplus Food To Places That Need It Most

FareShare is a national UK network redistributing surplus food from producers and suppliers to not-for-profit organisations that work with vulnerable people (such as homeless hostels, community groups and childrens breakfast clubs). These organisations make significant savings on their food bills, while helping avoid excessive food waste.

Cyrenians run the FareShare franchise for Central and South East Scotland. FareShare is a national UK network redistributing surplus food from producers and suppliers to not-for-profit organisations that work with vulnerable people. We currently distribute 7 tonnes of food per week to over 80 member organisations across our region. This amount is set to grow along with the network of members we work with. Our suppliers include multinational companies and local shops: supermarkets, suppliers, sandwich shops and bakeries. We take food quality and safety seriously, and nothing goes out the door if we aren’t 100% happy. Our network members are support organisations who use food as part of the service to their clients. They include homeless hostels, residential care services, food banks, community groups, breakfast clubs, youth groups, school holiday programmes and more.

Our diverse range of volunteers come from all walks of life and some have used our support themselves. Many of the volunteers deliver food to the hostels they used to live in, demonstrating the power and positivity of the work we do.

As well as helping us out, volunteers can improve their skills and experience through specific work placements.
