information SERVICE DETAILS

Thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers, and foodbank supporters, we are helping over 200 people per month. In recent years we’ve seen a growing number of individuals and families who without the help of a foodbank would literally be going hungry at a time of personal crisis.

The Foodbank is funded by donations from the congregation of Holy Trinity Church, and the very generous financial and food donations from local Churches in the west of Edinburgh, individuals, the City of Edinburgh Council’s food charity support fund and Currie and Balerno Rotary Club. Without their generosity and support, we would be unable to supply the huge quantities of food that we require every week.

When is Holy Trinity Food bank open and how does it work?

Foodbank clients in need of a food parcel come to the Bridge Community Cafe on Tuesday afternoons at 2:00pm. The Cafe is reserved at this time for clients who are welcomed with coffee/tea and cake whilst they have their personal details registered and receive their food parcels.

We have trained volunteers who come in and chat to the people who arrive, often stressed and with many issues in their lives which contribute to their need for help with food.

Sometimes people just want to come in for a coffee and a chat, such is the need and isolation of many in the community.

Our Foodbank is a short term support facility to help people as they pick themselves up from a wide range of difficult circumstances, often involving loss of income or short term loss of benefits. We provide food parcels for individuals and families normally on a fortnightly basis, over a period of up to 4 - 5 months.

Referrals...

Referrals are not required for Foodbank – we look forward to seeing anyone in need at 2.00pm each Tuesday.

How can you help?

The foodbank depends on several vital resources

- Food donated by supporters
- Cash donations to pay for food where we may have insufficient food handed in.
- Volunteers to pack food parcels and help with distribution on Tuesday afternoons.

(Note: all cash donations are spent on food – we have no salary costs since we run with 100% volunteers. Foodbank management costs are funded by Holy Trinity Church.)

If you can help in any of these areas please get in touch.
