We live in a world with great need but also great prosperity. At the Vine Trust our aim is to inspire and empower volunteers to make a difference. We believe everyone can make a difference!
In an age where active global citizenship has become the talking point of governments, schools, the media, workplaces and coffee shops, Vine Trust’s ‘Global Challenge’ encourages young people to think about their place in the world and how they can make a difference. A series of challenges helps young people learn about key global issues, such as poverty, injustice and human rights, and what they can do to become active global citizens.
- Challenge 1
Many children have to live on the streets with no security or shelter. Build a temporary shelter and spend a night in it.
- Challenge 2
Over 1.4 billion people live on less that £1 per day. Make a nourishing meal for 4 people for £1.
- Challenge 3
Find out about the daily life of a family in rural / urban Peru / Tanzania.
- Challenge 4
Make a presentation about family life in Scotland and highlight differences and similarities to families in Challenge 3.
- Challenge 5
Children living on the streets have few or no belongings and have to make do with what they find. Make your own utensils with scrap material to prepare and eat a 2 – course meal.
- Challenge 6
Real poverty means no money to buy clothes. Make an item of clothing for yourself out of scraps. For an extra challenge why not hold a fundraising fashion show with the clothes you make?
There are Bronze, Silver and Gold awards available for people/groups who complete 6, 12 or 18 challenges. We also have Global Challenge badges that are available to purchase
