Based within our dedicated Outdoor Learning Centre, Harmeny Outdoors offers a huge variety of adventurous and environmental activities, which are fully integrated into the curriculum, for all children who attend Harmeny.
This service, which is fully licenced through AALA (Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority), is also offered to external groups – and our team of three well qualified and highly experienced Outdoor Learning staff are able to individually tailor activities and training programmes to meet the needs of external groups.
Harmeny Outdoors is part of Harmeny Education Trust Limited, which provides specialist residential and day education services for children with complex Social Emotional and Behavioural Needs. As well as providing adventurous and environmental activities for children who attend Harmeny School, Harmeny Outdoors offers a range of activities for external groups, as well as volunteering and student placement opportunities.
Activities can include: weekly outdoor learning sessions to every class group; adventure PE; group and individual work around identified goals; and overnight stays under canvas or in other adventure venues. A great deal of our work is to support the pupils’ learning within class. However, we also offer a wide range of outdoor adventurous activities including: mountain biking (including bike maintenance), kayaking, skiing, orienteering, adventure trips, team building games, environmental studies, and community involvement.
By the time they leave Harmeny, children will have experienced a wide variety of outdoor activities, improved their physical and emotional wellbeing, grown in confidence, increased their awareness of the environment and gained new skills and interests, which we hope will last them a life-time. Our aim is to help children make choices about positive, active lifestyles through guided discovery.
