We provide information and emotional support to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their families, friends and supporters across Scotland. We are also here to support those questioning or wanting to discuss their sexuality or gender identity.
Are you Deaf BSL user or hard of hearing, and do you want to talk to us about something? LGBT Helpline Scotland is here for you. You can talk to us through BSL Contact Scotland or online messenger. More information is provided in the video below.
Why call the helpline?
You can bring anything to the call. We have access to a wide range of information on, for example, sexual health, support organisations, social groups, the commercial ‘scene’ and where to get support with any issues you have. We are also here for you if you just want to talk. It can be comforting to explore your feelings, get something off your chest or just to know that you are not alone. We can discuss a range of issues with you including sexuality, coming out, gender identity, relationships and sexual and emotional wellbeing. We understand that it can be difficult to pick up the phone, but please remember that your call is confidential and we are not here to judge you or tell you what to do; simply to support you in whatever you are going through.
Our helpline is also here for partners, family and friends of LGBT+ people, or others such as professionals who are supporting people with issues around their sexual orientation or gender identity.
What will the call cost?
Calls to this number will cost you the same as calls to local landline numbers and they are included in any special call allowances or packages you may have either on a mobile or landline.
Who will answer your call?
The helpline is supported by experienced, trained, friendly, non-judgemental staff and volunteers who are happy to listen. Many of us identity as LGBT ourselves, and we are all experienced in supporting LGBT people with a wide range of issues.
Our national LGBT Helpline Scotland is delighted to announce our new online LiveChat service.
Despite positive steps in regards to equality legislation and public attitudes, many LGBT people throughout Scotland can still feel isolated. People contact the helpline seeking emotional support or information on a range of topics including sexual health, hate crime, coming out, housing, difficulties with relationships and mental health issues. We have a trained, non-judgmental and friendly team of staff and volunteers to respond to anyone getting in touch.
The new service is available weekly on a Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:00pm - 9:00pm via this website. When a volunteer is available, you will see a pop-up box appear in the bottom right-hand corner of this webpage at https://www.lgbthealth.org.uk/services-support/helpline/livechat. Simply click on the box to begin communication.
