Grassroots Art...

Grassroots Arts provides a space for members to harness creativity and express themselves. This is done through various arts and crafts, including painting, knitting, poetry and flower arranging.

Whether you are working on a project of your own or need some ideas, this is a creative and fun atmosphere to work on art projects. No need to bring your own supplies, all necessary materials are supplied.

The project has been a longstanding, continuous group within the Grassmarket Community Project, and acts as a safe haven for people to develop trust, relax and socialise with others. It gives a space for creativity to develop in an environment that offers a person centred approach to the attendees, and a belief that given the correct environment, created by the attendees, people can develop and achieve their chosen goals.

Grassroots Arts also provides an opportunity for conversation and socialisation for people who are in need of some company and perhaps want to learn a new craft or rediscover a hidden one that they previously had before their current situation.

Facilitated by Judit/Jody - Robert Burns Room

The members programme is about supporting people through transitions in their lives and reconnecting disengaged people. This is the ethos that underpins all the elements of what we do, from cooking to social integration, work opportunities to social contact, advice to arts. We are committed to meeting individuals, welcoming them and supporting them wherever they are on their journey. We are aimed at vulnerable people however we also open the doors to anyone so we enjoy a truly rich, diverse and supportive community!

We offer a mixture of education programmes, drop-in services, social enterprise and social integration activities.

Free lunches are served to members of the project (participants in this programme who register with us).

To become a member and access this FREE programme ask at reception for a form or complete the form online at https://grassmarket.org/member.

How do I sign up for Classes?

Once you are a member there is an activity book kept at Reception. You just need to flip through that book to your chosen activity with the appropriate date and sign your name. Please do this in advance, as sometimes activities can be cancelled on the day, and we would need to notify all members who had signed up. Make sure your contact details and emergency contact details are up-to-date. You can also phone 0131 225 3626, email info@grassmarket.org or text 07860 021 262 and we’ll add you.

How do I sign up for Lunch?

Once you have signed up for an activity on a chosen day, there is a separate sign in sheet kept at reception for lunch. Note: You must be coming to an activity in the morning / afternoon in order to attend lunch. There is a cut-off of 11:00am - if you haven’t signed up for lunch by then it may be to late, sorry.
