The YMCA Playranger service offers free, supervised outdoor play for children living in Cables Wynd House.
The Playrangers come equipped with lots of play resources, games and ideas. The service operates at Cables Wynd House 46 weeks of the year.
We can be found every Tuesday at 3:30pm - 5:00pm and Friday 3:00pm - 4:30pm in sunshine, rain and even snow (we even have outdoor wet weather clothing for the children so they can enjoy playing in all weathers).
N.B. Please note that the Playrangers service is not a childcare facility and children are free to join in and leave at any time.
We facilitate a range of exciting play opportunities for children in their own outdoor environments. Some of the activities including games, construction tasks, messy play, water play, scrap play and much more. This is a free, child-led service, so we encourage children to decide what they want to do from the range of resources that we bring with us.
What are ‘Play Rangers’?
Play Rangers are dedicated staff and volunteers supporting children to play out in their own streets and parks. We facilitate play outside in local communities by providing resources and ideas to encourage exciting, active and socially bonding play opportunities for 5 to 13 year olds. All children have to do is bring their imagination and lots of fun will be had by all.
We are not childcare, but offer parents reassurance and children an environment where they can feel comfortable to join in, utilise their local community spaces, meet new people and have fun.
Sample of activities:
- Traditional games – rounders, dodgeball, hula and many more.
- Den building – utilising natural spaces and some scrap materials such as cardboard, blankets and pegs etc.
- Water play – cascades, tarpaulins, guttering, slides.
- Arts and crafts – painting, leaf rubbing, wind chimes and much more.
- Challenging play – obstacles courses, balancing and juggling.
And many, many more activities to stimulate the imagination, build team skills and support the overall development of children and their wellbeing.
