Training & Awareness Raising

Accredited Training

It is recognised that families can play an important role in supporting the person in prison and preventing reoffending, but they have their own needs for support too.

When a family member is sent to prison, the impact on the family‘s health and wellbeing can be significant and enduring. In particular, children may experience feelings of sadness and loss, affecting their emotional and mental health.

Families Outside offers accredited training to those individuals and groups across the statutory and voluntary sectors who come into contact with families affected by imprisonment. Attendance at this training will count towards continuous professional development.

The Families Outside: Families Affected by Imprisonment training is designed to raise awareness of the impact imprisonment has on families, improve practice and develop the knowledge and skills of participants required when supporting families affected by imprisonment. We will be delivering this training online until we are able to deliver in a community setting.

The training consists of three modules and participants should choose which ones are relevant to their line of work.

Attendance at any of the modules will aim to achieve the following learning outcomes:

- Understand the impact imprisonment has on the whole family in order to reduce stigma and social isolation
- Improve the overall experience for families including children and young people, navigating through the criminal justice process from arrest to release

Please click on each module at https://www.familiesoutside.org.uk/professionals/training/for more information and to register your place.
