information SERVICE DETAILS

Coaching for Life is an exciting initiative set up by Quarriers to enable young people to make positive lifestyle choices and create a better future for themselves. We work directly with young people to establish their needs and support them to take part in learning experiences, gain qualifications and develop independent living skills, self-confidence and resilience.

How does it work?

Our programme gives young people the chance to work with a dedicated Life Coach who provides one-to-one support tailored to individual needs. Through person-centred planning, we help to recognise values of personal importance, identifying every young person’s strengths and crucially, the behaviours that need to change in order to achieve success.

We work with each individual to create their own personal development programme, encouraging them to set higher ambitions for themselves. This focuses on building confidence and communication skills so that young people feel able to take part in training opportunities and move on to meaningful post-school employment or education. Quarriers provides support and representation to liaise with local community services such as schools, colleges, apprenticeships, job shadowing and other youth employment and development provision.

What does it achieve?

Young people benefit from a partnership approach where their views, opinions and aspirations are considered. This enables them to develop a working plan which helps them to be clear about where they are, what they want to change and what they can do to achieve their goals. When young people are engaged and motivated, attendance levels at school or college increase, while there is a reduction in exclusions, isolations, detentions and risk-taking behaviours.

How do I get involved?

The service supports young people aged 16–25 who have a history of being looked after within the care system.

Anyone can refer a young person meeting the eligibility criteria to Quarriers Coaching for Life. Young adults can refer themselves; parents can refer their child; and brothers or sisters can refer siblings. If you are a professional or youth worker and think someone you work with could benefit from our programme, you can also refer.

If you are interested in finding out more about Coaching for Life, would like to refer yourself or someone you know, or would just like to have a chat with one of our Life Coaches, please get in touch.
