information SERVICE DETAILS

Are you an asylum-seeker or been granted refugee status (New Scot) and looking for a bike?

We are currently unable to accept requests for bikes outside Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Due to the high demand for bikes we try to prioritise those with the greatest level of need such as asylum seekers, those who are destitute, unaccompanied young people, and refugees who are not in employment and on low incomes.

We have a limited supply of free bikes. If you have the financial means to purchase a bicycle (we can advise) it would be very helpful to us and other refugees/asylum seekers if you were not to request a free bicycle at this time.

We are unable to provide bicycles directly to people supported within ‘shared’ accommodation. Please do not request a bike if you reside in a hotel or ship /cruise liner. We are in discussions with shared accommodation providers to make arrangements for access to shared bike schemes.

Please complete our request a bike form at https://www.bikesforrefugees.scot/new-scots if you are eligible for a bike. As well as providing you with a free bike we will also provide you with a free New Scots Welcome Pack containing a free bike helmet, lock and lights.

We can also help you to access cycling support if you do not feel confident cycling on Scottish roads and paths

We will get a bike to you as quickly as we can:

- We are a small charity with a big demand for free bikes and many people on our waiting list
- We currently prioritise people in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and those with the greatest level of need and economic disadvantage
- We are unable to provide free bicycles directly to those supported in shared accommodation (hotels / ships)
- The Covid-19 Pandemic slowed down our operations and we are still catching up
- We will contact you as soon as a bike becomes available
- Thank you for your patience.

Current waiting times for bike in Glasgow - 9 months.
