Normal service details...

The Café Training Project provides individual training, development and social support for 20 trainees per year.

All trainees receive catering experience in a real life café environment and participate in SQA training through Edinburgh College, depending on their aspirations, personal needs and abilities. These voluntary placements are suitable for people who have a barrier to employment such as an additional support need or learning difficulty, long term unemployed, care-experienced, caring responsibilities, mental health difficulties, and experience of the criminal justice system.

Fancy becoming a trainee on our Cafe Training Project? We are recruiting young people and adults who struggle to find work. Trainees are valued in their role and are supported by a team of professionals who focus on increasing their skills, confidence and emotional resilience.

How long are the placements for?

Placements usually last for around 6 months and trainees come for one day per week. This can vary depending on the abilities and aspirations of the trainee.

What sort of tasks would I be involved in?

Trainees participate in daily tasks such as preparing food, cleaning, setting tables, stock taking, cash handling and customer service. Trainees are also encouraged to embark on and achieve accredited training in line with their aspirations and abilities.

Will I work with other people?

Trainees develop their confidence through working with staff, other trainees, volunteers, and customers.
