Feel-Good Food, Feel-Good Actions at Vesta Bar & Kitchen
As well as our chain of social enterprise sandwich shops, we also own a restaurant in the west end of Edinburgh, Vesta Bar & Kitchen. Unlike other restaurants in the Scottish capital, a visit to Vesta is more than just a great meal, it’s a restaurant with a difference. Together with Social Bite, we’re on a mission to end homelessness in Scotland.
We open exclusively every Monday afternoon to serve a two-course meal to people experiencing homelessness and food poverty. Our customers can choose to ‘Pay Forward’ the cost of a coffee, lunch or dinner to help provide meals to people most in need.
We also provide training and employment programmes for members of the Social Bite Academy, the charity’s 4-year, paid course for vulnerable people.
Pay it Forward...
Diners can enjoy all the culinary delight that Vesta has to offer whilst benefiting from the ability to effortlessly “Pay it Forward” with a coffee, lunch or dinner for a homeless person to enjoy later in the restaurant.
It’s simple and easy to do, cards are placed on the tables for customers to choose an option to be added to their bill. It’s at the customer’s discretion and all contributions received help provide free food throughout the year to people experiencing homelessness.
Meals for the Homeless...
The restaurant opens 3:00pm - 5:00pm on Monday afternoons for an exclusive service for the homeless, where they can dine with dignity.
Training and Employment...
Training and employment opportunities for Edinburgh’s most disadvantaged people are offered and Social Bite team members can further their career.
Owned by Parent Charity Social Bite
100% of the restaurant’s shares are owned by Social Bite’s parent charity to further our work with the homeless.
Vesta is wholly owned by the Social Bite charity and is supported by an impressive list of leading figures in the Scottish restaurant scene, with Social Bite board members including Michelin-starred chef Martin Wishart, David Wither and Simon Littlejohn.
