Classes & Activities

There are a variety of classes and groups who regular meet at The LifeCare Centre.

For more information, or to find out about joining a class or group, contact the organisers direct using the details below.

Young Engineers...

The Young Engineers programmes have been developed to provide an edutainment based approach to learning about maths, science and engineering. Children use LEGO or K’NEX based kits and tools to develop their own problem solving skills. They learn to apply critical thinking and question the learning topic therefore developing an in-depth understanding of each topic through the building of a model.

Big Builders...

Is a programme for children in nursery and primary 1. We aim to get our young children excited and inspired by science early in their life and to start an ongoing curiosity about their world.

We use K’NEX bricks which are larger than LEGO and easier for our young engineers to handle. Children develop their tactile, motor, and spatial skills as they build their models and learn science and engineering principles. These programs are conducted in small group settings to ensure that each engineer gains the intended knowledge and experience and that we can give the children plenty of time to ask questions

Suitable for ages: 3 - 5 years
Time: 3:45pm - 4:30pm
Cost: £8.50

Bricks Challenge...

Is a LEGO® based programme. The programme operates a 4 term cycle with no repeats across the academic year. Activities are aligned to Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) at first and second level with particular attention on Numeracy and Science Experiences our Outcome.

Each class is 75 minutes long and delivers both theoretical and practical knowledge of the STEM subjects. Children are provided with a unique LEGO® bricks kit and build a motorised model at each class.

Throughout our classes we aim to excite, inspire and educate your children in a way that sparks their curiousity and builds their confidence in STEM subjects. Children leave our classes proud of their achievements with new knowledge and a new learning experience.

Age: 6 - 8 (typically P2 to early P5)
Time: 4:45pm - 6:00pm
Cost: £13 per class

Galileo Technic Program...

Is Young Engineers advanced LEGO® building program that emphasises learning throughout the class. Students investigate mechanical systems from a real engineer’s point of view. The program focuses on finding solutions using teamwork in order to build complex machines. Children will explore the mechanical, mathematical and physical aspects of machinery and the logic process that goes into building them.

Classes are aligned with the Science and Numeracy elements of Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence and focus on second and third level experiences and outcomes.

Galileo Technic is intended to challenge children who enjoy technical activities. Sessions are 90 minutes long and include opportunities for the children to design their own enhancements to the core model, each time applying standard mathematical and scientific concepts to proove their design. We aim to provide an alternative learning environment where young people are able to use their own creativity and confidence with LEGO® to improve their knowledge and understanding of STEM topics.

Ages: 9 - 11 years old (P5 to P7)
Time: 6:15pm - 7:45pm
Cost: £14.50 per class

All classes take place on a Thursday @ the LifeCare Centre.

Each child can attend a single taster class to see if they enjoy our programme.
