information DESCRIPTION

The Leith Lapidary Club is situated at Leith Links, Edinburgh. We have facilities and equipment for silver work and enamelling as well as stone cutting and polishing.

This is a club with a history. We were previously the Edinburgh Gas Lapidary Club, formed in July 1971, with the first clubroom opening in August 1972. We moved to our present premises in 1982 and in 1995 we changed our name to the Leith Lapidary Club. In August 2014 we had to move again and are now situated in St Margaret’s House at Meadowbank.

What is lapidary? Putting it simply, lapidary is the art of working with gemstones. Engraving, cutting, or polishing of stones and gems.

Our activities, apart from lapidary, include silverwork and now enamelling. We encourage a friendly helpful participation between members and organise tuition courses for beginners.

We have a range of equipment and tools available for our members use and a limited supply of material is available at cost.

The Clubroom is spacious and pleasant to work in. Why not come along and find out for yourself. Try out a new hobby and enjoy making new friends.

The club maintains a membership of around 60-70 individuals of all ages with an interest in lapidary, enamelling, small scale metalwork and silver jewellery.

We have an annual Open Day in spring and participate in events organised by St Margaret’s House.

New members are welcome.
