Phone us when you're feeling low
We are a free, confidential, phone service for anyone in Scotland over the age of 16 experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety.
We are here in times of difficulty to provide a safe and supportive space by listening, offering advice and providing information.
It is our belief and hope that by empowering people, they will have the resources to recover.
Breathing Space was launched in 2002 to address serious concerns about the mental wellbeing of people in Scotland. The service became a national phoneline in 2004.
Breathing Space complements the work of other phonelines and agencies which are endeavouring to reduce suicide rates in Scotland.
Our advisors come from a range of mental health, counselling and social work backgrounds. There is an equal ratio of male to female advisors, who may be part-time or full-time. Breathing Space is not a volunteer service.
Delivered by NHS 24
Breathing Space is funded by the Scottish Government's Mental Health Unit.
The service is operationally managed by NHS 24 and delivered from NHS 24 contact centres.
