Friends of Fairmilehead Park are a group of volunteers who work closely with Edinburgh Council and play a key role in enhancing and protecting the park, woodland and green space in Edinburgh.
The Park is what remains of Comiston Estate, both woodland and open pasture, which was acquired by Miller Homes in 1939. It overlies an Ice Age moraine which produced many local springs and ponds especially in Comiston Sandpit (known locally as the Gully).
Fairmilehead Park is located close to the leafy residential areas of Fairmilehead, this community park extends to 3.159ha.
The park sits off Comiston Road and bordered by Camus Avenue on the south side & Pentland View on thenorth side. It is also sometimes known as Camus Park.
Fairmilehead Park is an important community park in Edinburgh’s green network. The recently formed Friends of Fairmilehead Park are active partners in the development and park improvement plan, together with CEC. They fulfil practical voluntary tasks and have formed a good partnership with Pentland Primary School to encourage outdoor environmental activities for the school pupils. Communications are via site visits, annual AGM and social media.
