Gilmerton Community Centre is a vibrant place with a large inviting reception area. Printing, faxing and photocopying facilities are available, and there are always staff and volunteers on hand to give help, information and advice. There are 4 general purpose rooms, 2 crèche rooms, a computer suite, and a small hall all available for hire. A busy café also operates from the centre.
The centre is a focus for the local community providing a range of services and information and educational opportunities. We have a varied daytime and evening programme, and aim to provide a venue for groups to meet and take part in cultural and social activities. Provision for children and young people is through youth clubs during term time and holiday activity programmes.
The centre is staffed and funded by the City of Edinburgh Council, and is leased to a voluntary management committee. The committee is elected annually at the AGM, and contributes a significant amount of resources to support the centre’s programme as well as contributing to the general improvement of the facilities in the centre. The centre relies heavily on its volunteers, many of whom are members of the management committee, to run groups, help out in reception and generally contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the centre.
