Description

The Jack Kane Community Centre is a voluntary organisation which is situated in the East of Edinburgh. The centre is located within the grounds of Hunter's Hall Park next door to Edinburgh Leisure’s sport centre. The centre comprises general purpose rooms, a large kitchen area, a sports hall, specialised rooms for meetings and educational work all of which are complimented by having internet connections within certain rooms to enhance training facility needs. A strong partnership exists between the City of Edinburgh Council's Life Long Learning Department, local people and representatives who are elected annually as members of the centre's management committee.

At the same time the centre offers a wide and diverse range of activities whilst still being available for letting purposes. With an extensive range of people using it for activities ranging from Highland dancing to older people's tea dances the centre is also attracts businesses and training providers alike. Indeed, this centre benefits from having a specialised youth and children's service which offers activities for children and young people. These activities include detached youth work as well as targeted work. The service also carries out early intervention work within local schools.

The centre is also home to the Garden Globe Project which seen a derelict piece of land to an oasis of vibrant growing and learning opportunities.

There are also many volunteering opportunities to be had within this venue with the centre having benefited from volunteers who have brought their expertise, knowledge and experience in order to make it a more attractive place.
