CLASSES FOR YOU, OR YOU AND YOUR BABY

Parenthood can be challenging. Our aim is to support you through your pregnancy, into early parenthood and beyond. Our sessions help you build networks of support, friendship and connect you with people who will help you feel confident in your choices.

BABY AND TODDLER MUSIC

Music with Jackie is an award-winning Early Years Music Education class. It is guitar and song based with recorded music kept to a minimum (some good quality classical and folk music). This makes for a very relaxed, non frenetic atmosphere where children are responsive to learning all the basic musical concepts in an unconscious, creative and fun way.

Established in 2003, 'Music with Jackie' is an award-winning Early Years Music Education class.

Join Jackie on a musical journey all the way from bonding with your baby with wiggles, tickles and bounces to hearing your older child singing solo with confidence and joy.

It is guitar and song based with recorded music kept to a minimum (using some good quality classical and folk music). This makes for a very relaxed, non-frenetic atmosphere where children are responsive to learning all the basic musical concepts in an unconscious, creative and fun way.

Classes strongly emphasise and facilitate parental involvement. You will be encouraged to interact as much as possible in the class and to take what you share with your child in the class into your family home and make music an integral part of your everyday lives.

Jackie has a huge repertoire of traditional and original songs, action songs, finger rhymes, musical games and stories using many soft toys and other props to illustrate and bring the songs to life for your child.

WHO IS IT FOR?

For families with babies and young children up to age 5. Younger siblings are welcome to come along with the older child.

COURSE INFO

WHAT DOES IT COVER?

Each week the classes follow a similar structure in order for the children to feel settled and well acquainted with a routine. They will quickly learn to recognise when it is time to return instruments, sit quietly or stand for movement and dance.
There is always tea and biscuits after the class.

HOW DOES IT BENEFIT MY CHILD?

Music making is incredibly beneficial to a child – intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally. It is a whole brain activity and involves the whole child – the child’s desire for language, the body’s urge to move, the brain’s attention to patterns, the ear’s lead in initiating communication, the voice’s response to sounds, as well as the eye-hand coordination associated with playing musical instruments.

WHAT WILL THEY LEARN?

Educational themes such as the changing seasons, Christmas, Halloween, food, animals, mini beasts, transport, our bodies, the ocean etc are brought into the classes regularly.

Jackie adheres to the Curriculum for Excellence ensuring that the children are learning through play and feel free to express themselves. There are plenty of opportunities for them to develop language skills, creativity and coordination skills along with numeracy and literacy. These all contribute to healthy growth and development, knowledge and understanding, and capacity to learn.

WHAT MUSIC IS THERE?

There are old favourites and new songs along with songs to suit the time of year. The repertoire ranges from traditional to

modern songs along with original ones penned by Jackie herself.

Each week there are songs to suit a particular percussion instrument which we play together and we often play an assortment of these for our band song.

Depending on age there are lap songs, finger rhymes, action songs, movement and dance, listening exercises, stories using music, circle songs and a variety of colourful props to help the children to engage and just have a lot of fun. Musical concepts such as pitch, tempo and rhythm are also part of the framework of the classes from an early age.
