Host families open their homes to look after children for a night or two, up to a couple of weeks. This allows a regular break or space to support families dealing with issues or challenges.
Host Family volunteers can have a powerful impact in the lives of struggling families, especially when the family doesn’t have a network of family and friends to whom they can turn.
You will have the option to tell us how many children you feel able to support, the preferred age range and gender of children you are able to accommodate, as well as when you are available to volunteer.
Sounds a bit like fostering?
It’s true that hosting does bear more than a passing resemblance to fostering. The main differences are that the arrangement between the family needing the help and the family giving the help is completely voluntary, no money is involved, and the intervention is generally provided at a stage before the problems in the family have begun to have a serious behavioural impact on the child.
Make a difference to the long-term outcomes for children and our communities. To begin the process of becoming a Host Family simply fill in the online form at see https://safefamilies.uk/volunteer.
