information SERVICE DETAILS

Recovery support is provided for women and their children who are out of immediate harm, focusing on the journey to process and understand the trauma of the domestic abuse they have experienced.

CEDAR (Children Experiencing Domestic Abuse Recovery) programme is a 10-12 week therapeutic and peer support group work programme for mothers and their children, aged 5-16 years, who have experienced domestic abuse.

We run regular groups for our service users who are interested in meeting other women who have had similar experiences of domestic abuse. The groups provide peer support and an opportunity to build trust, enhance collaboration, and to promote recovery and healing.

Each group has a focus or a theme and the activities will focus around this. For example our group in February had the theme of International Women’s Day and the women created artwork based around this.

Mothers have the opportunity to attend a women's group to support their children.

Mothers are encouraged to attend the women's group.

The group aims to:

- Help mothers reflect on their children's needs
- Enable women to support their children
- Prepare mothers for issues that may arise from their children's groups
- Provide a chance for the mothers to talk about their own experiences

The mother's programme runs in parallel to the children's - with mothers meeting a day or two before their children. Mothers have the opportunity to look at and discuss the materials that their children will be using.
