information SERVICE DETAILS

If you are living with HIV or Hepatitis C and have children aged 18 or younger, we can provide them with support and time-out through our Befriending service.

Your child would be matched with their very own volunteer Befriender who will take your child on fun, fortnightly outings. These can range from a visit to the zoo to a picnic in the park, from a trip to the seaside to climbing Arthur’s Seat, from swimming to an afternoon at the movies and an outing to a café.

Befriending outings provide a chance to have some fun, develop a new skill and have time out.

Our befrienders are trained to understand the complexities of living with HIV and Hep C but also to appreciate that sometimes an opportunity for children to put all their energies into an absorbing activity outside of the home can have far-reaching benefits.

Positive Help works hard to make good matches between your child and a suitable volunteer. A member of staff will meet you in your home, introduce our service and find out what activities your child enjoys. When a suitable volunteer becomes available, they will be introduced to your family and, if all are happy with the match the befriending service will begin.

We strive to uphold the UN convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC) through our children’s services. There are a range of resources available to aid understanding of the UNCRC and some of these can be accessed on our resources page.

This project is part-funded by the Scottish Government (Children, Young People and Families Early Intervention Fund and ALEC Fund Grant)
