FAQ's...
Who is this workshop for?
If you have a baby and are thinking about starting to introduce food but don’t know where to start, this workshop is the perfect place to get all the information you need. We can answer all your questions and provide advice and guidance on everything including:
- Signs of readiness to look out for
- First foods
- Weaning methods
- What equipment do I need/not need
We’ve already started introducing food, is this still relevant?
Yes absolutely. Some of the topics discussed are for those parents thinking about starting to introduce food for the first time but we also cover lots of topics relevant to older babies such as:
- Progression through different food groups
- Progression through textures
- Preventing fussy eating habits from developing
- Early years nutrition and how to offer a healthy balance
My child has a food allergy/intolerance, can you help with navigating this during our weaning journey?
Yes, our Early Years Nutrition specialist, Jess, is a member of Association for Nutrition and REHIS qualified in allergy awareness. We are up to date in the latest research in how to minimise the risk of food allergy development and can guide you through the safest way to introduce new potential allergens to your baby, whilst avoiding any foods they are diagnosed as allergic to.
I’m concerned about starting weaning and the risk of choking, can you help?
This is a very common concern and one that Jess is familiar with, as a mother of 2 young children herself. She can guide you through what to expect from your baby when they are first learning how to eat, ways to reduce the risk of choking, how to recognise a genuine choking incident and signpost you to paediatric first aid resources so you can prepare yourself in case your baby gets into difficulty. It can also help discussing your concerns with other parents and carers, so we welcome you to talk amongst the group and hear their views and experiences too.
I’m not very good at cooking, what can I give my baby other than baby food jars/pouches?
You don’t need to be a great chef to make healthy food for your baby. There’s lots of foods which need little or no preparation and are really good for your baby. We can also provide lots of easy recipes to try as part of your weaning journey.
