Kindred provides information, advocacy and emotional support to parents of children affected by disability and additional support needs.
Kindred provides an advocacy service for parents of children with complex needs who have difficult situations to resolve with regard to the care of the child. You may be facing difficult decisions about medical care, or believe that you have not received the right level of benefit.
The team runs answers around 200 enquiries every year via telephone or email from families.
The Community Team can provide information and support on a wide range of subjects including:
- Support and information with regard to school placements
- Applications for trust grant funds for specialist equipment and grants required for caring
- Assistance with applying for benefits such as Disability Living Allowance
- Advocacy support for statutory meetings with health – including Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS), social work, education and housing
The staff have a wealth of knowledge for you to tap into and every response is tailored to your individual circumstances. If we don’t know the answer, we will find out who to ask.
The Community Team can also offer a block of 5 free counselling sessions to parents whose children are the The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, on either an inpatient, or outpatient basis.
