Covid-19 UPDATE...
Given the current situation we are all facing due to the Corona virus NEDAC is adapting the way we do things as the situation evolves. Our priority is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the people we support and our staff.
All staff are working predominantly from home and our office at North Edinburgh Arts Centre is only manned part-time. We are checking for messages on our answer machine but would suggest emails to mwc.nedac@nhs.scot for professional referrals or mail@nedac.co.uk for information and advice.
We continue to adapt our arrangements for supporting people, in response to Covid-19.
While meeting inside clients homes still poses significant risk to staff and clients, home visits will be for essential purposes only and we will be offering phone or text support with outdoor walk and talk contacts, where appropriate.
As our office is closed you can get in touch by E Mail: mail@nedac.co.uk
We will continue to support people using our service to ensure they are following public health advice.
Our team will be contacting people directly with updates regarding their individual support.
Normal service details...
We will work with the most difficult and vulnerable individuals who are often referred to as non compliant, difficult, not motivated to change and serial non attenders or are frequent attenders at hospital, who have complex mental health and substance misuse needs with multiple vulnerabilities, who are unable to access services in the traditional way.
These are predominately older drug and alcohol users who are isolated, not engaging with treatment and support services, often suffering from anxiety and depression or with severe and enduring mental health conditions, accompanied by substance use issues and deteriorating physical health conditions, many with early onset age-related Illnesses, as described in the SDF “Older Drug Users Report”, November 2016.
The service will deliver a holistic, bespoke, client led intervention, and will work with them to the point that they can access and remain engaged with services, this is a behavioural change service, providing individuals with motivation, coping strategies, knowledge and information to allow them to make informed choices about treatment, their behaviours and what aspects they want to and need to change.
We support people to make positive changes in their lives, enabling them to set and then reach meaningful and achievable goals to ensure that they feel empowered and able to reconnect with society, gain new skills, plan for the future and start in their recovery journey by reducing chaos, isolation and loneliness, improving physical and mental health and rebuilding social and family networks.
Professional Referral into the service will be through the referral form that follows the referral criteria.
Please download and complete the form with as much information as possible and return referral through our NHS.scot account to ensure confidentiality. MWC.nedac@nhs.scot
