The EVOC Red Book

The online directory to find third sector Organisations, and their services across Edinburgh

Directory of local groups/projects who are offering specific support during the current COVID-19 pandemic »

In line with Government advice, most groups and organisations in the city have had to take the unfortunate decision to suspend face to face and group work activities. Please telephone or email the contacts listed for the group or organisation if you are interested in their work to check what alternative arrangements might be available or to find out about alternative groups or services in your area.

The Murrayfield Club is a non registered day care service for people who are 65 years or over. The project is for older adults in the West Edinburgh area. People, mainly over 65, who are frail elderly and/or with early stage dementia. As far as is possible the Murrayfield Club service will accept all equality groups.

The project offers older adults the opportunity to get out of the house and meet others and make friends. The group offers support, friendship, a variety of social activities and a hot lunch. It allows older people to remain longer in the community and enable them to move on to other services as and when appropriate.

Who provides this service?

Murrayfield Churches Together (MCT)

Our service runs three days a week:

- Tuesday: older frail adults and older adults with mobility difficulties
- Thursday & Friday: older adults with a diagnosis of dementia.

Our accessible day service provides person-centred activity sessions in partnership with members and their carers whose needs have been identified by our Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) trained staff.

Members' needs are intertwined with bespoke session that relate best to each individual. Knowledge of members built up over time ensures that the differing capacities are threaded into seasonally relevant, creative, thematic and therapeutic activity programmes aiding carers respite and support.

Activities can consist of music, quizzes, reminiscence, literature, board games, art and crafts, guest speakers, gentle aerobic exercise, carpet bowls, skittles etc. Day trips and special events are also arranged throughout the year.

Two course hot lunch and tea/coffee and biscuits are served throughout the day.

Our accessible premises accommodates wheelchair and disabled toilet facilities.

Transport to and from the venue is provided (included in the price). Each member can be collected from home either by mini-bus (equipped with a lift) or by a volunteer driver and escort and returned home the same way at the end of the day. Alternatively, you can make your own way to us or travel with your carer.
