NEDC provides a day care service six days a week, Monday to Saturday, filling 174 places per week, 29 people each day.
We offer a wide range of activities, as well as assistance with personal care. Each activity promotes an aspect of either physical, mental or emotional stimulation. These are proven to help people with dementia maintain their skills.
Some examples of the activities our members enjoy include:
- Music, singing and dance
- Gentle exercise / wii fit
- Therapets
- Hair / nail care / personal care
- Quizzes and games
- Reminiscence Therapy
- Reality orientation
- Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
- Life story work in conjunction with carers
- Doll Therapy
- Massage and pamper sessions
- Arts and crafts
- Quiet time / relaxation
- Entertainers / dancers / musicians
- Task orientation therapy: cooking, baking, gardening etc
Throughout the year we also organise day trips and special events. We like to take our members out for day trips as often as we can to provide them with a change of scenery and further stimulation. Generous donations from local organisations have allowed us to enjoy theatre trips, high tea at the Bonham hotel and our annual visit to the Belmond Royal Scotsman train for a 5 star lunch.
As well as stimulating activities, we also provide our members with transport to and from the service (provided they live within our catchment area), a light breakfast on arrival and a hot 2 course lunch made by our volunteer chef. We also provide additional services including a wellbeing clinic, an in house chiropodist, an in house hairdresser and Specsavers also carry out annual eye tests.
How much does it cost?
There is a small daily charge of £10.00 per day if the City of Edinburgh Council have organised the individuals day care.
If you are interested in our service and would prefer to ‘try before you buy’ please contact us for a free trial session.
