Wester Hailes has a rich history of community activism - out of which, WHALE Arts community arts centre was formed.
Pod Press is one of WHALE's Arts & Wellbeing projects which now functions much like a social enterprise, with a commercial risograph printing arm which helps fund community print projects and subsidise printing and design education costs for Wester Hailes' residents.

What is Pod Press?
Pod Press is a community riso press and social enterprise based in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. We offer our printing services to everybody, and through profits and dedicated funding, we offer subsidised print services and design education to our wonderful local residents.
What is riso printing?
Risograph, or riso printing is an eco-friendly, budget-friendly form of printing that has been around since the 80s! The machine looks like a big photocopier but inside it works a bit like a mechanical screenprinter and makes charming, bold prints.

Eco-credentials
On top of only stocking FSC certified papers, riso machines use up to 95% less energy than traditional office copiers and print using inks made from rice bran.
Cost Friendly
Riso printing is designed to make multiple copies using the same stencil over and over. This means the more you print, the lower the cost per sheet is!
Looks Good
There's something special about the riso charm which you just can't get from other commercial printers. We even have a fluorescent ink which stands out like nothing else!

Pod Press is a community riso press for Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. Proceeds from every print job feed directly into subsidising teaching and print opportunities.

How pricing works.
Given the nature of the risograph printing method, it really depends on: chosen paper stock, number of colours, size, trimming, and number of copies. The more copies you get, the more economical the cost per unit is. Please see https://www.podpress.co.uk for more info.
