We provide a multi disciplinary Service for people with communication disorders who reside in Edinburgh and the Lothians (Midlothian, East and West Lothian).
We recommend appropriate technology and support.
Low Tech...
Low Tech Systems come in a variety of sizes, shapes and for a variety of functions. A low tech augmentative communication system might take the form of simple flash cards, menus, diaries, passports, books, boards and place mats etc.
Please see https://keycommaac.wordpress.com/about-aac/low-tech for further information.
Medium Tech...
There are many different Voice Output Communication Aids now available.
Please see https://keycommaac.wordpress.com/about-aac/medium-tech for further information.
High Tech...
High Tech communication aids are available in different sizes, with different capabilities. They can be text-based for literate users, use different symbol systems, or have static and/or dynamic displays. Access can be direct or via a switch, and selection can be direct or via scanning. These aids may be dedicated communication devices, sophisticated software on computers, or communication apps on mobile or tablet devices.
You can borrow items from our extensive loan bank. If you know what you want to try, just call up and see if it is available in our loan bank. Loans are usually made for a period of 2-5 months.
Please see https://keycommaac.wordpress.com/about-aac/high-tech for further information.
iPad
Keycomm focuses upon supporting communication. We consider all types of AAC strategies and consider a wide range of devices when recommending voice output communication devices.
We only consider introducing an iPad, or other communication device, if they are going to be used for communication, and it can be shown that it will add to the current successful communication strategies already in place.
Please see https://keycommaac.wordpress.com/about-aac/ipad for further information.
Assessment/referrals...
You can refer someone to Keycomm for a complete communication technology assessment. This means filling out a short referral form and then one member of the Keycomm team will visit you/the user.
Please see https://keycommaac.wordpress.com/downloads/referral-and-individual-funding-forms.
