NCT Edinburgh (National Childbirth Trust) run ‘Yoga based’ preparation for birth classes.

A weekly class of stretches and relaxation for women over 12 weeks pregnant.

You can feel confident that not only will the exercises be designed to be safe for pregnant women, but your teacher will understand many of the physical discomforts which can come with pregnancy – backache, heartburn etc and will be able to show you which postures to avoid and which might help.

Why Relax, Stretch and Breathe?

Relax, Stretch & Breathe classes offer breathing, relaxation and gentle stretches as preparation for labour and birth. Each class includes time to chat and get to know a small group of women. After stretching and breathing exercises, there is a relaxation and a chance to unwind and bond with your baby. The class finishes with refreshments.

• Better blood circulation
• Reduced swelling from fluid retention
• Improved posture and body awareness

The classes are suitable for all women, regardless of their fitness level. No previous experience of yoga is required.

Bring along a mat, block and blanket if you have them though all equipment is supplied.

Wear comfortable clothing suitable for exercise.

Yoga for Pregnancy / Relax, Stretch & Breathe Class

CT Relax, Stretch and Breathe (yoga based exercise) classes are held as a weekly drop-in, so you can start at any stage in your pregnancy, after 12 weeks.

Please bring along a mat, block and blanket if you have them and wear comfortable clothing suitable for exercise.

Each class consists of approximately an hour of yoga-based exercise followed by refreshments and an opportunity to chat about pregnancy or birth related issues. I encourage women to return with their baby, as others are always keen to hear their story and ask questions about life with a new baby.

The class is held on Sundays 4.30pm - 6pm.

It is not essential to book but helpful if you can.
